Hello! I haven’t done a Chronicles of Illness post in a while, have I? Seems about time.
Rather than this one being full of tips on how to cope with your illness, this one’s more of an update on my life, and why I’ve come to the decision to take a momentary YouTube break.
As many of you will probably already know, I’ve been having a lot of issues with my jaw for a little while now – I’ve lost a lot of weight because I’ve been struggling so much with eating and drinking, been having pretty bad headaches because of dehydration and the muscle spasms in my jaw, and mostly I’ve just been laying in bed because I have pretty much zero energy; especially in the last week or so.
I managed to summon the strength to go to my leavers prom last week and had a lovely time seeing everyone, but that night really made me realise how much I’m struggling at the moment! If you’ve seen any of my videos for the past month, you’ll also know that talking causes me a lot of pain. So, I’ve decided to heed the very kind advice of a lot of the comments on those videos, and have a little YouTube break until something’s done to help my face. I’m going to carry on with my blog posts on the two-a-week rota I have going on (because I enjoy it and want to speak to you, not because I feel I need to) and stick with Instagram like I have been. On days that are better or if I want to show you something, I’ll upload a video to my YouTube channel
I’m not going to stubbornly avoid it, I’ll just upload as and when rather than to a specific schedule like usual. It’s just that I’d rather make good videos that you’ll enjoy watching than upload pants videos but stick to my schedule! I’m most definitely going to be coming back (hopefully very soon), so please don’t unsubscribe – I won’t be gone long!
In the meantime, if you could follow this blog so that you can keep up to date with my happenings, it would really mean a lot! Don’t worry, I don’t spam your inbox with emails (I don’t even know how to send a group newsletter, so there’s no chance of that happening anyway) and it would really cheer me up to see new followers when I’m feeling so pants! If you’re interested in what the current plan is with me medically, here’s the lowdown:
I have an MRI today (the day I’m writing this that is, Friday) on my jaw, and an emergency meeting with the oral surgery team in Norwich next Thursday to look at the MRI results and plan what the next steps are. On Tuesday (the 18th) I have an appointment with a dietician to get the lowdown on what the plan is for my little tummy – whether to carry on going through the (literally) agonising experience of trying to drink the meal supplements, or whether we’ll think about going down the NJ tube route. I’ll keep you all updated!
I hope you understand my YouTube hiatus decision, it’s definitely not what I wanted to have to do – I love making videos and chatting to everyone in the comments, it’s just unfortunately another thing that my stupid chronic illness has forced me into and is a decision that took a long time to make and has, to be totally honest with you, really gotten me down! Please don’t unsubscribe, I’m so grateful for your loyalty and I promise that keeping me in your subscription list will be worth it in the end!
I really do hope you’re all doing well health and happiness wise, even if I’m not… just another hurdle to get over, and I’m sure I’ll be back to my usual level of crippled-ness soon!
Would it be possible to put this post up on your You Tube channel for followers to read – for those who don’t follow the blog to be kept up to date? Not everyone does Instagram either so it would be a way to keep everyone informed. Everyone will totally understand.
I hope they are able to come up with something useful/helpful quickly now you have had the MRI done.
Sending good wished and hugs.

Firstly I definitely will not be unsubscribing to your YouTube account, and I look forward to seeing more of your videos once you are feeling better. Hope your MRI went well today. And I really hope that the medical team can make a decision quickly so that you are not in any more pain. Also, hope the 18th goes well with the dietician, NJ will be far nicer than the supplement drinks! If there is anything I can do to cheer you up just give me a shout 🙂

Thank you so much, fellow Harriet! I’m a funny mix of nervous and excited about my appointments, they’re all so important and far away and could go so many different ways – but then they could go really well!

Hi Harriet. So sorry to hear about the setback in your health. Do hope that the doctors and nurses will be able to help you. I have only very recently subscribed to your blog and am enjoying your videos. It is such a shame that you have to cope with all this at your young age. I have a health condition that causes problems from time to time but nothing on the scale that you have and I am a great deal older than you.. Look forward to your return when you are well enough.

Harriet, I certainly have no intention of unsubscribing. I’m totally in your corner and holding you up constantly in my thoughts and prayers. Your cheerful videos are quite delightful to me, and I am thrilled that you and other young women are taking up sewing. Sewing has been such a source of pleasure throughout my own life and I truly hope that you will derive similar happiness from it. I’m so sorry you are experiencing such physical hardships and I am in awe of your patience and fortitude in the face of them. Keep up your good cheer and for sure your fans will be waiting to hear further news of you and to see you restored.
